Refacing for Chicagoland kitchens

Refacello provides cabinet refacing in Illinois for Chicago and the suburbs in Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, Will, McHenry and Kendall counties. Our headquarters and design center is in Wood Dale, near O’Hare, and our second Illinois showroom is in St. Charles.

Refacing leaves your cabinet boxes where they are. We replace the doors and drawer fronts, cover the frames and end panels with matching veneer, and install new hinges and hardware. A typical kitchen takes 3–5 days, and your sink and appliances stay connected unless you’re replacing countertops too.

It’s the right fit if you like your layout but not the way the kitchen looks, and it typically costs 30–50% less than replacing with comparable new cabinets. For a closer look at the trade-offs, read refacing vs. replacing cabinets.

Chicagoland houses and what refacing does for them

Most Illinois kitchens we’re asked to look at fall into a few familiar types. Here’s how refacing usually fits each one.

  • Compact galley kitchen with white cabinets and a window over the sink

Chicago bungalows and older city homes

Bungalow kitchens sit at the back of the house and tend to be narrow, with windows, radiators and walls that aren’t quite square. Refacing keeps that tight footprint working, and recessed-panel doors in a painted finish suit the Arts and Crafts woodwork many bungalows still have.

Typical areas: the Northwest and Southwest Sides, Oak Park, Berwyn

  • Open kitchen with sage green cabinets, a quartz island and a view to the living room

    1950s–70s ranches and split-levels

These kitchens often have site-built or early factory cabinets with face frames, sometimes tucked under a soffit. When the boxes are sound, new doors, veneered frames, soft-close hinges and under-cabinet lighting bring them up to date without tearing anything out.

Typical areas: Des Plaines, Mount Prospect, Elk Grove Village, Lombard, Downers Grove

  • Warm wood cabinets around a white island with pendant lights

    1990s–2000s subdivision homes

Golden oak raised-panel doors on sturdy boxes are the signature of this era. Swapping them for Shaker or slab doors in a painted finish, RTF or a darker wood veneer is a straightforward refacing job, often paired with new countertops.

Typical areas: Naperville, Plainfield, Aurora, Lake and McHenry counties

Illinois cabinet refacing questions

Have a question we didn’t answer? Call (630) 555-0140 or send us a note.

Do you work inside the city of Chicago?

Yes. We reface cabinets in Chicago houses, two-flats and condos. In a condo or high-rise, tell your designer about work-hour rules, elevator reservations or insurance paperwork so your project manager can plan around them.

Which Illinois showroom should I visit?

Whichever is easier to reach. Wood Dale is handier for Chicago, the north and northwest suburbs and eastern DuPage County; St. Charles is handier for the Fox Valley and the far west suburbs. A visit is optional either way, since the designer brings samples to your home.

Is the consultation free in the outer counties?

Yes. Consultations are free and without obligation in all seven counties, including Will, McHenry and Kendall.

Can you reface cabinets in an older Chicago home with uneven walls?

Usually, yes. Walls in older homes are rarely perfectly square, so fillers, end panels and trim are fitted on site to close the gaps. Your designer will point out anything unusual during the consultation.

How long will my kitchen be out of commission?

Not long. Installation of a typical kitchen takes 3–5 days, and the kitchen stays mostly usable throughout. The sink and appliances stay connected unless countertops are being replaced. See our process for each step.

See your kitchen with new doors before you commit

A designer comes to your home with door samples, finishes and hardware, measures your cabinets and leaves a written, itemized quote. It’s free, and there’s no pressure to decide that day.

  1. Tell us a little about your kitchen
  2. Pick a time for your in-home design visit
  3. New doors installed in 3–5 days
