Refacing for Madison’s mix of homes

Cabinet refacing in Madison, WI covers a wide range of kitchens. On the isthmus and the near east and west sides, many houses are decades old, and downtown near the Capitol has plenty of condo buildings. Farther out, on the far west side and in Middleton, Verona and Fitchburg, many homes were built within the last few decades.

Refacing suits both. The cabinet boxes stay in place, and we replace the doors and drawer fronts, cover the frames and end panels with matching veneer, and add new hinges and hardware. There’s no demolition, which counts in a condo with shared walls and in an older house where you’d rather not disturb the plaster.

Our showroom is on the west side, and our designers travel throughout Dane County for free in-home consultations.

Getting ready, by type of home

A few things that make the consultation and installation go smoothly. For more, see preparing your kitchen for refacing.

Condos

  • Ask your association about contractor work hours and noise rules
  • Find out whether the elevator or loading area needs to be reserved
  • Let us know where installers can park and unload

Older homes

  • Point out doors that stick or shelves that sag so the designer can check the boxes
  • Mention any past leaks under the sink
  • Consider whether a pantry or an extra cabinet would help

Newer homes

  • Decide whether the island should match or contrast with the perimeter
  • Think about replacing countertops at the same time
  • Look at under-cabinet lighting and pull-out organizers while the work is under way

Madison cabinet refacing questions

Have a question we didn’t answer? Call (630) 555-0140 or send us a note.

Do you charge to come out to Sun Prairie or Stoughton?

No. In-home consultations are free and without obligation throughout Dane County, including Sun Prairie, Stoughton, Mount Horeb and everywhere in between.

Can you reface cabinets in a downtown condo?

Yes. Refacing involves no demolition, so it’s shorter and quieter than a full remodel. Share your building’s rules with your designer, and your project manager will schedule deliveries and work around them.

My older east-side house has cabinets from different decades. Can they be made to match?

Yes. Refacing puts one door style and finish on every cabinet and covers the frames and end panels with matching veneer, so pieces added over the years read as one kitchen. A box in poor shape can be replaced.

Can I add an island while refacing?

Yes. We can add or replace individual cabinets, including an island, finished to match or contrast with the rest of the kitchen. For bigger changes, see kitchen remodeling.

How long until my kitchen is finished?

Allow about 4–6 weeks from final measure to install while your doors are made to order, then 3–5 days of installation for a typical kitchen.
